Police Arrest Suspect Connected to Recent Shooting That Injured Rapper Skilla Baby

Authorities have made an arrest in connection to the drive-by shooting that left Detroit rapper Skilla Baby hospitalized.
According to the Redford Township Police Department, the rapper, whose real name is Trevon Gardner, was struck three times after a gunman fired more than 20 rounds at his vehicle. The incident occurred on May 22, 2025, near the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Beech Daly. A witness at the scene quickly transported Skilla Baby to the hospital, while police later discovered his bullet-riddled car.
Detective Edward French stated that the department has submitted the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review. The suspect, whose name has not been released, has not yet been formally charged.
Investigators were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle with the assistance of federal agents, the Detroit Police Department, and additional law enforcement partners. The vehicle’s owner was taken into custody on Wednesday. A subsequent search of the suspect’s home led to the discovery of the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Despite his injuries—which reportedly included a graze to the head and a shot to the leg—Skilla Baby made a surprise return to the stage just two days later at fellow rapper 42 Dugg's concert at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit. Wearing a sling due to his injuries, he performed briefly, receiving an enthusiastic response from fans .
The investigation remains ongoing.
